What did you find?
Good reviews, bad reviews, false reviews, neutral reviews, BBB pages, ripoff reports, court cases, social media posts, or someone else’s website dominating the page????
Your internet reputation shouldn’t make you sweat bullets…
What Is Online Reputation Management?
ORM has been around since atleast 2005, or atleast that is when I remember seeing the term for the first time.
The results that show up online, particularly the first page of results, for a brand or individual is online reputation.
Your online reputation is what people searching for your business find out about you on the internet.
Online reputation is what sets you apart from your competition…good or bad, it sets you apart.
Your internet reputation is how you stand out in a world of equals…sameness sucks, you want to positively stand out from your competition.
Your competition can’t duplicate your online reputation, and all of the amazing things about your company.
Positive feedback from customers that interact with your company is the best compliment you can receive.
Now that electronic communities dominate the world we live in, monitoring, and fixing your reputation online is vital.
Your reputation is all about who knows you, and you want to put your best foot forward just like you would if you were offline.
You wouldn’t go to a business industry event and show up looking like you just woke up…
It might get people “talking”…
Well on the same note, you don’t want someone to look your company up online and see a bunch of stuff that doesn’t represent you or your brand.
It might give them the wrong impression, right?
What is ORM & Why Should You Care?
ORM is one of those good ole acronyms. It stands for online reputation management.
Here is a great slide on the importance of ORM:
Cost Of Poor Online Reputation
Remember one negative piece of content online can cost you BIG.
We recently worked with a Dallas company that lost over $20,000 in less than 2 months due to poor Yelp review ratings.
Now if that isn’t motivation enough to find some help I don’t know what is…
Yelp is a very powerful online community that rates local businesses, and it is so powerful that a few bad reviews can cost you dearly.
Here is a Yelp.com case study done by the Harvard business school, and the jist of it is this….poor ratings cost you business, period.
I will talk about Yelp reviews more in the FAQ section.
Back to reviews in general…
Negative information about you online, is not only unflattering, but can ruin your companies profits.
95% of consumers research online before buying…I can’t remember where I heard that, but here is what I know….
Whenever, I want to buy something, I always go online and check out companies and reviews.
Now that everyone is mobile, it’s so darn easy to do, so people do it.
What is a poor online reputation costing your business?
According to the Harvard business review, “a bad reputation costs a company atleast 10% more per hire”.
So not only is a questionable reputation costing your business money, but it costs you potential employees as well.
Now that it’s so easy to get information on any company at anytime, it’s not just about your offline reputation any longer. #onlinereputationmatters

How can I fix my online reputation?
You can fix the online reputation for your business by producing fresh, positive content about your business, and promoting that content so it shows up online, and on the first page of the search engines.
How can I get my Yelp reviews to stick?
Yelp can be such a booger. lol If all of your reviews are going into the black-hole of not recommended, then here are a few things you should remember:
Reviews are more likely to stick if:
- It’s a real customer review that actually provide value to the Yelp community. A short review like: “A+ Service” is just a waste of space, and might not stick.
- The reviewer is active on Yelp and has reviewed several other businesses
- It is posted from an IP location that is close to the business
A review may be filtered if it is…
- From someone who has only written 1 review
- From someone who has Incomplete profile (no profile info such as profile photo, additional info, link to Facebook, etc)
- Strongly slanted either positively or negatively without a value post
- Short post lacking details
- From a location other than where the business is located
No one wants negative reviews about their business online. The best way to combat negative reviews is to first try to make it right with the customer. At the end of the day, they had such a horrible experience that they took the time leave leave a poor review for your company. So try to make it right.
You can get rid of negative reviews by creating fresh positive content about your business and getting that content ranked on the first page of Google. This is time consuming, and can get you in hot water if you are not up to date with Google’s latest algorithm updates. So make sure you are up to date before you try to rank anything.
Where can I find an online reputation management expert?
The best place to find an online reputation management expert is through a referral, and if you don’t know anyone, then do a search online. You want to make sure you choose someone that has good reviews, and is a trusted company.
As a side note, we recently worked with a company who picked the cheapest company they could find. Not only did this company make their reputation worse, but the strong arm tactics they used got the business a negative rating with the BBB. This is NOT the type of company you want helping you.
Just be careful!
In one word, yes you can.
If you are on a tight budget, and need to manage your reputation there are several things you can do.
The first step is to know what is being said about you online by searching, which you should have already done.
Then you need to define the goal for your online reputation management campaign.
Is your goal to remove negative items, or just create a more favorable view of your brand…you gotta know the goal.
Create positive content, rank the quality content, and dominate the online conversation about your brand.
Easy Peasy Lemon Squeasy. lol
